Building a new home is an exciting journey, but it’s often surrounded by misconceptions that can make the process seem daunting. To help clarify and guide you through the process, here are the top five myths about new home construction, debunked.
Myth 1: New Home Construction is Too Expensive
One of the most common myths about new home construction is that it is prohibitively expensive. While it’s true that building a new home can be a significant investment, it’s important to consider the long-term benefits and potential cost savings.
Reality: Cost Efficiency and Value
Building a new home allows for customization to fit your budget and needs. Modern building techniques and materials can also result in significant energy savings and lower maintenance costs over time. Additionally, you avoid the hidden costs of older homes, such as unexpected repairs or renovations.
Myth 2: Building a New Home Takes Too Long
Many people believe that building a new home will take an excessively long time, causing delays and stress.
Reality: Streamlined Processes and Planning
This varies from project to project; but roughly 16 to 20 months of construction for a new home. This also varies depending on the size and complexity of the house. Any major changes made by the owner and interior design team in the middle of the project can dramatically alter the timeline. The Architect can take about 4 to 6 months to get a full set of Architectural and Engineering drawings completed. Once these are signed and sealed, we would submit those to the applicable building department. Plan review takes between 4 to 8 months. This can also vary greatly depending on the complexity, or accuracy of the plans submitted and what city we are building in. If an Interior Designer is needed, we recommend engaging them early so that their ID Drawings don’t hold up our production and material schedule.

Myth 3: Customization is Limited
Some prospective homeowners think that new home construction offers limited customization options, leaving them with cookie-cutter designs that don’t meet their personal preferences.
Reality: Endless Customization Opportunities
One of the greatest advantages of building a new home is the ability to customize every aspect of your living space. From floor plans and finishes to energy-efficient features and smart home technologies, the options are virtually limitless. Collaborating with a skilled design team allows you to create a home that reflects your unique style and needs.
Myth 4: New Homes Are Not Built to Last
A prevailing myth is that new homes, particularly those built quickly, are not as durable as older homes.
Reality: Modern Materials and Construction Standards
Today’s new homes are built using advanced materials and construction methods that often surpass the quality of older homes. Building codes and standards have also become more stringent, ensuring that new homes are safe, durable, and energy-efficient. When you build a new home, you benefit from the latest in construction technology and quality assurance.
Myth 5: You Have to Compromise on Location
Some believe that new home construction is only possible in remote or undesirable locations, far from amenities and infrastructure.
Reality: Diverse and Attractive Locations
New home developments are available in a wide range of locations, from bustling urban centers to peaceful suburban neighborhoods. Builders are increasingly focusing on creating communities that offer a balance of convenience and quality of life, with easy access to schools, shopping, and recreational facilities. Whether you’re looking for a quiet retreat or a vibrant community, there are plenty of options available.
